I am the grandson of Charlie Joy, I now live in Canada but have recently been shown the old Clears mine by Brian Joy, my mother Phyllis Joy often spoke of the Clears and taken her fathers lunch to him whilst working in the mines. My aunt Kathy Joy still resides in Reigate and has some interesting photos of the period. If any family member would like to contact me they can email me at m5076@quickclic.net Thank you. Mike

THis photo is from the Croydon Natural History and Scientific Society collection, and was scanned by me (you can see the tell-tale scanning streaks of my old rubbish scanner!) and forwarded to Adrian for his family interest. It is good to see it here, but I thought I should point out the true origin of the picture.

Hi Peter. Sorry for not labelling these pictures correctly with their origin. Thanks for correcting it. Hope that the use of the photos is okay.

With thanks to Michael Ross, who took this picture aged 14. This is a photo of Alfred Turrell
and the horse was called "Stocking" (from the white blaze on its face).

This photo was published in the Surrey Mirror in about 1981 with a letter from Mr Ross. I wrote to him then and got an interesting letter in reply. I would like to be put in touch with him again if that is possible as I would like to have a copy of this image for my own records. Thank you.
